The beautiful Tur Khurakh Gorge is located on the Bogd Khaan Mountain which stands to the south of the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar. The area is the site of a remarkable tree nursery and plantation which is run by the Nogoon Khishigten NGO and Great Green Partners LLC.
On Thursday, 7 June, Mongolian President Kh.Battulga visited the Tur Khurakh Gorge to meet with forestry specialists. Every year ‘Green Partners’ produce around 300 thousand saplings for planting. In order that the young trees grow up strong, they use special technology to increase the tree’s root mass. The specialists explained that the gorge occupies an important location in Central Asia and deforestation here is an issue of importance not just for Mongolia but the continent as a whole.
The team has a good track record: previously they planted 2,800 saplings in a 18 hectare area surrounding the Khamar Monastery in the Dornogobi Province, the company is now working to further expand the forest area of the Tur Khurakh Gorge.
The president and the specialists dedicated to making Mongolia green, discussed a number of issues including that of post-planting care.
