Tomorrow, 1 June, is celebrated around the world as the International Day for Child Protection. In Mongolia, we refer to the day simply as Children’s Day. The roads will be closed on the east and west sides of Sukhbaatar square as official Children’s Day events take place between 9.00 a.m and 5.00 p.m.
According to Law on Celebrations, 1 June will be non-working day and, subsequently, the standard driving restrictions will be eased.
The first-ever children’s organisation and movement in Mongolia was established on 5 May, 1925, ‘united under one purpose and intention’, at the initiation of the great writer D.Natsagdorj, who was the leading youth leader of that time.
Mongolia joined the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990 as the fifth member, and developed the Law on Protecting Children’s Rights according to the convention’s views. The law was ratified on 8 May, 1996.
