The construction of the largest flyover in Ulaanbaatar started on 15 April. Located near the city park and Traffic Police HQ, the structure is expected to open in 2019. Currently, over 120 workers from Mongolia and China are working on the construction project; this number is expected to rise to 5000 when the main building phase of the flyover begins in late June.

To reduce the anticipated traffic congestion during the construction work, eight secondary-roads will be newly built or expanded with 1.3 billion MNT. Ulaanbaatar City Administration has already spent MNT 780 million opening five of these new roads.

The main flyover between Olympic Street and Ikh Mongol Uls Street, passing over Narnii zam (Sun Road) and the 406th railway crossing will be 470-meter long, 16.5-meter wide and have 4 lanes. Three feeder-bridges will be constructed connecting the main flyover with Narnii Zam. The biggest feeder-bridge and auto road to the south will be 637-meters long, 7.5-meters wide with 2 lanes, while the other two will have a length of 170-meters and 270-meters, and width of 7.5-meter and 8.5-meter, respectively, with one lane each.

Traffic is one of the most pressing challenges in Ulaanbaatar. Around 80 percent of all vehicles in Mongolia are driven in the capital, with some 40,000 being imported each year.
