According to the Mongolian National Statistics Office (NSO), the rate of unemployment has risen by 2.4 percentage points to 9.7 percent since the fourth quarter of 2017. The NSO reported that by the end of April, 34,500 people had filed applications at employment and labour organisations in search of jobs; 23,400 of them are registered as  unemployed.  A breakdown by gender shows that 12,300, or 52.6 percent of the total registered unemployed people are women.

According to the NSO, unemployment by region is as follows: 33.8 percent are living in Ulaanbaatar, 19 percent in the western part of the country, 18.7 percent in the central part , 16.7 percent in the Khangai region, and 11.8 percent in the eastern part of the country.
