The Mongolian Trade Unions organised a demonstration on the capital’s Sukhbaatar Square to mark International Workers’ Day and for demanding that the government increases the monthly salary.
Vice-President of the Confederated Trade Unions S.Erdenebat said: ‘The government has been delaying salary increase. Over two years we have twice presented a demand to increase the minimum wage. Mongolia’s minimum wage is 11.7 times lower than South Korea. A yearly salary in Mongolia is equal to a South Korean worker’s monthly pay’.
If the demands are not meet, the union threatened to organise nationwide strike. Nurses, teachers and cultural workers are committed to join the strike.
