The FIFA World Cup Trophy will arrive in Ulaanbaatar on 23 April and will be officially received by Kh.Battulga, President of Mongolia. After the ceremony, the 18 carat golden object, which means so much to football fans the world over will go on public display at the Shangri-La Mall in Ulaanbaatar.
To mark the the occasion of the ‘official visit’ of the trophy, the Mongolian Football Federation will organize a ‘Super Cup match’ and ‘Stars Football’ tournaments.
In September 2017, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola kicked off in Moscow. The trophy stayed in Russia until December before starting its global tour to cover over 50 countries including Mongolia. It returns to the host country in May just ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
The ‘FIFA World Cup Trophy’ was introduced in 1974. Made of 18 carat gold with a malachite base, it stands 36.8 centimetres high and weighs 6.1 kilograms. The object was made by ‘Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni’ company in Italy. It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. Only the winners of the FIFA World Cup or heads of state have the right to touch the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
