Mongolia and Russia enjoy traditionally friendly and good-neighbourly relations. The number of Russian arrivals in Mongolia has increased since the neighbouring countries signed a visa-free agreement in 2014. In addition, Mongolia has numerous direct flights to Moscow, Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude as well as train and road travel services.
In 2017, the number of Russian arrivals in Mongolia increased by 21.7 percent to 106,000 from previous year. Also, over 416,000 Mongolians travelled to Russia. Most of Russian arrivals were tourists and small business groups.
Mongolia recently participated in the Baikaltur international tourism exhibition in Irkutsk. The event took place on 28-31 March for aim to develop tourism along the traditional Tea Road which linked the two counties in bygone days.
