A total of 56 Mongolian exchange students are to study engineering in Japan. They represent the second batch of students on the Higher Engineering Education Development Project which the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is implementing in Mongolia.

The exchange students have already arrived in Japan before the start of the new semester at the technical colleges which starts in April. They will be studying mechanical engineering, electrical-electronic engineering and other specialties.

In recent years Mongolia has been achieving remarkable economic growth. This has led to a growing need to develop local technical talent. Although technical education in the country is improving, the quality standards are inconsistent and often fall below international requirements. Engineering is no exception – Mongolia sees improving the standards in technical colleges, institutes and universities as being a top-priority.

The JICA programme provides a solution. Under the scheme1,000 Mongolians are to study technical sciences  in Japan by March 2023. This practical initiative is a result of the economic partnership agreement signed between Japan and Mongolia in February 2015.
