D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign affairs and D.Sumiyabazar, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industries have received been given the archive of geologic research data held by Russia. A total of 61 CD and other materials containing research and survey data covering the period from 1950-1990 has been kept in the Russian Federal Geological Fund (Rosgeolfond).

Over the course of four decades, the USSR conducted extensive geological research in Mongolia, which, in the period before 1990 was part of its sphere of influence and a close political ally. It should be remembered that Mongolia has extensive resources of uranium, which were naturally of strategic interest to Soviet Union; however, all the research material conducted by Moscow’s geologists has been kept secret – until now. For many years, Mongolia has been keen to have access to the geological data stored in Rosgeolfond’s archives.
