Mongolia’s former president today suggested on Twitter that his country should host the pair’s historic meeting. The meeting, set to occur ‘by May’, will make Trump the first ever US President to meet with a North Korean leader.
Ts.Elbegdorj tweeted: ‘A long awaited breakthrough! Here is an offer: US President Trump and NK leader Kim meet in UB. ‘Mongolia is the most suitable, neutral territory. We have facilitated important meetings, including between Japan and NK.’
North Korean representatives have actually been meeting with former US officials in Ulaanbaatar recently as the two countries initiated preliminary meetings.
The White House confirmed talks between the leaders will be held ‘at a place and time to be determined’; South Korea claims that the meeting would take place by May.
