The annual Ulaanbaatar winter festival took place in the National Park over the weekend. The festival was organised by the city administration  in cooperation with the Ulaanbaatar tourism department.

The Ulaanbaatar Winter Festival has been a success in promoting winter tourism in Mongolia; visitors have been able to  learn about traditional games – and to participate in them. Along with music and heavy doses of culture there has been lots of tasty food to try – such as tsuiwan (fried meat with noodles). The dish is particularly welcome on icy winter days. During the festival famous chefs prepared and served tsuiwan made in  a 3.5 meter diameter pan This year there have been large numbers of foreign tourists from neighbouring China and Russia, making the winter festival a truly international event.

Athletes from Russia and Inner Mongolia also participated in the winter festival. In addition, a team of journalists from Inner Mongolia’s Odon television prepared a report on the Ulaanbaatar Winter Festival which was broadcast in China and also north of the border in the Russian Republic of Buryatia.
