The ‘Altan gadas’ (Order of Polar Star) medal was presented to Dr Koo Byung-sok, president of the Korean Open Doctors Society in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Mongolian health sector. The highest state award, in accordance with a decree by the President of Mongolia, was presented by G.Baigalmaa, deputy of chief of staff.
When he first arrived in Mongolia in 1997, Dr Koo Byung-sok, observed that sickness rates among the population were high; so he began humanitarian activity. As president of the Korean Open Doctors Society, Dr Koo Byung-sok has been cooperating with the Mongolian Red Cross for over 20 years as well as hospitals in all 21 provinces of the country and the nice districts of Ulaanbaatar city.
