A 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook Mongolia’s South Gobi Province on Saturday. The epicentre of the quake was at Bor Tolgoi, about eight km from the administrative centre of the Tsogttsetsii Soum (district) at 11.04 a.m. local time. No causalities or damages have been reported. The 44th local division of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was quick to the scene and announced an emergency situation.
Tavan Tolgoi (Five Hill), one of the world’s largest untapped coking and thermal coal deposits is located 18 km from Tsogttsetsii Soum, where the earthquake occurred. The mining complex is important to Mongolia’s economy.
