Earlier today, (5th of April) the spring session of the Mongolian State Great Khural, as the parliament is known, opened at the State Palace. Speaking at the opening ceremony for his last time as President of Mongolia was Ts.Elbegdorj. In his address, he underlined that Parliament needs to approve the law of responsibility. President Elbegdorj stressed that drug addiction and abortion have become serious problems among young Mongolians; between 6-8 of every 10 teenagers faces a drug threat and 30 thousand unborn children are murdered by abortion every year.
M.Enkhbold, Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament spoke at the opening ceremony of the spring session about budget plans. According to the Speaker, budget income increased by MNT 36.5 billion in 2017 from previous year and tax revenue has exceeded by MNT 10.3 billion. The Mongolian Parliament must solve some issues, in order to meet the IMF requirements for further reducing the $440 million loan. Parliament will focus on improving budget performance and increasing income.
The current State Great Khural consists of 65 Mongolian People’s Party seats, 9 seats of Democratic Party, 1 seat of Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party and an Independent member; there are 13 female members – or 17.1 percent, which indicates the highest representation of women in the Parliament to date.
