In 2016, a total of 830 women, 229 cohabitants and 31stepchildren were registered as a victims of domestic violence in Mongolia. The Law to Combat Domestic Violence was approved by the Mongolian Parliament in December; this identifies domestic violence as a crime and came into effect on 1st of January.
As a part of the law, the Mongolian Police have established a special division to combat domestic violence and protect its victims. According to a recent study, a total of 94 individuals have died and 4102 others have suffered injuries over the last six years due to domestic violence.
