According to a
decision of the Mayor’s Office, 100 ger district households were marked for
relocation from their present dwellings in the most flood-prone areas. The
Deputy Chief of Ulaanbaatar Emergency Office has told reporters that 20 of
these have been relocated in Khan-Uul and Songinokhairkhan districts. The work to
shift others has been hampered as some households do not want to move from
where they already have land rights. It has now been decided relocation would
be enforced as human safety was of paramount importance.
Altogether 2,889 households
live in areas that face threats of flooding following heavy rain, as has been
frequent this summer.
