The Law to Combat Domestic Violence was approved by the Mongolian Parliament in December. The law identifies domestic violence as a crime and came into effect on 1st of January.
As a part of the law, the Mongolian Police has established a special division to combat domestic violence and protect its victims.
According to a recent study, a total of 94 individuals have died and 4102 other have been injured over the last six years due to domestic violence. In 2016, the number of registered cases of violent attacks increased by 3.6 percent on the previous year. The law requires also every citizen to report child abuse and domestic violence.
