Achieving sustainable development is essential “because no one in the world should be left behind and deprived of the right to development,” the President of Mongolia told the United Nations General Assembly on 20th of September in New York. A total of 102 president, three vice-president and 49 Prime Minister are participating in the annual meeting.
The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Peter Thomson, President of the United Nations General Assembly opened the 71st annual debate of the UN General Assembly. After that leaders from Brazil, Chad, the USA, Slovakia, Guyana, Qatar, Argentina, France and Malawi spoke.
Addressing a wide range of issues, the Mongolian President noted, that “development and accountability is all about democracy,” which should never be taken for granted. “It must be nurtured and strengthened on a daily basis […] a democratic society is sustainable because it aims at the highest development for every one of its members.” Mr. Elbegdorj stressed that leaders should provide an environment where democratic institutions can thrive, provide for rule of law, human rights, democratic governance, and free and fair elections.
