According to observations conducted by the “Wild Animal Research and Protection” NGO, some 314 birds were found dead along a selected route of 56 km of 15 kW power lines in April. Nearly 61% or 191 of these dead birds were falcons. Mongolia has a total of 6000 km power lines, which suggests that up to 4000 falcons are annually electrocuted.
There are 62 species falcons worldwide; nine species of which are to be found in Mongolia.
