A friendly golf tournament between Mongolia and Italy has taken place in Rome. The ‘Marco Polo Cup-2017’ was held on 9 November at the initiation of the Mongolian Embassy in the Italian capital.
Seven golfers from Mongolia including National golf champion B. Nemekhbaatar, and B. Munkhjargal, winner of the national golf handicap, as well as about 60 golfers from the ‘Diplomatic and International Golf Association’ (DIGA) and the Italian ‘Marco Simone’ golf club competed in the tournament.
Over 200 countries have Embassies in Rome. This is the first time the Mongolian Embassy in Rome in cooperation with Italian DIGA has organized a golf tournament. The event has been named after the famous Venetian adventurer Marco Polo who travelled across Asia to the Mongol Empire in the XIII century. Marco Polo is considered as an ambassador who established the first relations between the Mongolian Empire and Italy during the reign of Kublai Khaan, in whose court he spent much time.
