The Permanent Committee of Preventing Earthquake Disasters held a meeting at the State House on 13 November. According to the study, over 1000 seismic tremours were registered in Mongolia during the first ten months of 2017. The seismic activity has increased 10 times in recent years.
In October, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake damaged some buildings in the Gobi Altai Province, in western Mongolia.
Mongolia is taking this dangerous development seriously: last week, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted an earthquake disaster mitigation drill involving over a thousand people in the Gobi town of Sainshand.
