The Cyber Crime Division of the Mongolian Police Department has arrested five young people for hacking the over 20 Facebook accounts and swindling MNT 5 million (USD 2038) from individuals. The young hackers studied computer technology in various Mongolian universities; however, none of them graduated. In their crime, they hacked specific Facebook accounts from which they were able to steal money not only from their ‘target victims’ but also from those people’s relatives and friends.
According to the police, a total of 90 people have reported that their Facebook accounts have been hacked over the last three months. It is estimated that 870 thousand Mongolians use Facebook regularly.
