Mongolia’s State Great Khural (parliament) has discussed the presidential veto of Finance Minister Khurelbaatar. In the debate, which took place on 2 November, 84 percent of MPs who attended meeting of parliament voted against presidential veto.
Last Thursday, President Kh.Battulga vetoed several of the decisions adopted by the State Great Khural regarding the 20 October appointment of the new government ministers. In particular, President Battulga rejected the appointment of Ch.Khurelbaatar as Finance Minister following the latter’s proposal of granting a MNT 300 thousand (USD 122) one-off bonus to the civil servants at a time when the teachers and doctors are close to intensified strike action.
