In a letter to the people from prison, members of the
Managing Council of Gal Undesten Union have said that members of civil
movements are kept in detention even though they did not embezzle state funds,
did not take bribes, did not damage the environment with poisonous chemicals,
did not repay large loans taken from banks, did not gamble in casinos with a
bank’s capital,  did not smuggle
prohibited goods, did not sell drugs, did not make fraudulent claims in a
tender bid, did not make false promises to get official positions, and did not
sell counterfeit goods to state organizations.

Instead, says the letter, they want to put a halt to
activities that destroy the good life that is everybody’s right. They could not
keep quiet when some state officials spent public money on useless programs
while society reels under massive unemployment, poverty and price increase. For
example, the statue of Sukhbaatar was sent to China to be cast in bronze, and pavements
in the capital that were in good condition were renovated at high cost. Public
funds are used to execute irrelevant projects and loans issued for work that
never begins.

Underground resources have been exploited damaging
pastureland and drying up water sources. A polluted environment has led to many
fatal and debilitating cases of cancer in recent years. Power holders who did
not build any processing factory in the last two decades are now talking about
setting up a nuclear power plant and is preparing to store other countries’
spent nuclear fuel in Mongolia.

Civil movement activists, the letter concludes, fight to
save the state and to see every citizen has a healthy and prosperous future in
it. They see it as their duty and are proud to be working for the people.
