Failure to get the expected
permission for extra flights in summer led to about 200 passengers booked on a
MIAT Mongolian Airlines Seoul-Ulaanbaatar flight being stranded in Seoul airport
on June 22. MIAT had planned two extra flights on June 22 and 23 and issued tickets for them, without waiting for approval
from South Korean authorities. Our journalist asked N. Undral,
MIAT’s official spokeswoman, about the confusion.

What has happened to the passengers whose
flights did not take off?

We managed to bring back some 100 people on June 27, and
hope to make similar arrangements for the other 90 or so soon.

How will MIAT recompense the passengers who
had to spend five days in Seoul airport?

We have returned them the ticket money. Some of them came
via Beijing.

Why has South Korea held back permission?

We cannot say. MIAT is a national carrier and operates
under a bilateral governmental agreement .
