Around 19,000 of the approximately 36,000 foreign
citizens in Mongolia who have to hold residence cards have already done so. The
law on foreign citizens, recently passed by Parliament, charges the Foreign
Citizens Affairs Office with issuing such cards in seven different colors depending
on the status of the resident. Investors get grey cards, students pink and
workers yellow. 

The cards have the holder’s photograph, name, surname,
birth date, passport number, residential address in Mongolia, and prints of
both hands. All foreigners have been asked to secure one. If the original is
lost, a duplicate can be had on payment of an amount up to 5 times the minimum wages,
depending on the circumstances of the loss.
