in Parliament today discuss a draft law on firearms that calls for some new
restrictions on gun ownership and some new inspection regulations. Foreign citizens and stateless people will not
be allowed to own firearms, and the draft also seeks to regulate their use by legal
bodies such as security and sports training organizations.
The law on firearms was passed in 2001 and has been amended three times since
then. The present draft seeks to make gun owners more responsible. Altogether,
licenses for 40,894 firearms were issued in 2010. Police discovered 540 more
that were held without license. The state registers 67 sellers of firearms.
