Prime Minister S.Batbold explained the Government’s policy on the farm sector on Friday in Parliament. Mongolia had 160,000 herder households and 32.7 million animals at the end of 2010. The Government has implemented several welfare and development measures in the sector, such as the Mongol Livestock program, the law on agriculture raw material exchange and bonus worth MNT50 billion for herders.

The state has granted loans totaling MNT1.3 billion for intensive farm development, and 20 milk storage facilities, 6 dairy units and 30 farms have been set up with the money. USD200 million of a loan from China is planned to be used to construct meat and milk factories. Herders would also be covered by health and social insurance.
