The meeting of the Standing
Committee on Security and Foreign Policy on Tuesday saw some members launch a
scathing criticism of the way mineral resources organizations and agencies functioned
and demand the resignation of their chiefs. The
Chief of the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority (MRPA), J.Amarsaikhan,
and officials of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy were present and
heard the charges against them.
Z.Enkhbold said the MRPA should be disbanded for all its failures in recent
years, including its failure to prevent the fuel deficit, even though the signs
were clear as early as last December. No one has so far been held responsible
for the fuel shortage in the summer of 2008. He said the organization has been
talking for 20 years about importing fuel from the Gulf countries through Tianjin
in China but not a drop has arrived so far.
Amarsaikhan replied that they were evaluating other sources of supply and were
also considering building an oil refinery in the country. This did not satisfy
members who wondered why such issues cannot be resolved in 20 years. They demanded
the resignation of Minister D.Zorigt along with that of Amarsaikhan.
