Speaker D.Demberel
yesterday received a European Parliament team led by the head of its Central
Asia and Mongolia Section, Paolo Bartolozzi. The Chief of the Standing
Committee on Justice, D.Odbayar, Advisor to the Speaker D.Davaasambuu, and
other officials attended the meeting.
Demberel expressed his happiness that the visiting team comprised delegates from
many countries, and gratitude to the European Union for its help to Mongolia,
especially in its economic and political reforms. The special trade terms
offered by the EU are important for the Mongolian economy. He noted that
Mongolia gives considerable significance to maintaining and strengthening its traditional
friendly relations with EU countries. The EU decision to open a Permanent
Representative Office in Mongolia was a step in that direction, he said.
Bartolozzi thanked the Speaker for receiving them and said the large number of
members in his team indicated the importance of Mongolia to the EU. The recent
bilateral agreement on partnership and cooperation in issues such as fighting
terrorism, human and civil rights would make Mongolia a bridge between Europe
and Asia, he said.
