Five experts from the UN will work in Mongolia in May to prepare a plan to tackle the recent increase in crimes related to drugs, narcotics, counterfeit medicine and human trafficking. A UN expert who was here in October, 2010 concluded that Mongolia was well prepared to control drug-related crimes and human trafficking but needed to pay more attention to the problem of counterfeit and substandard medicines.

The five to come next month will work in cooperation with the Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs, and of Health, the State Specialized Inspecting Agency, the General Customs Office, the General Police Department, the Central Intelligence Service and NGOs. Their visit follows a request from the Prime Minister to the Chief of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime during his visit to Austria. He had asked for assistance as these new forms of crime were new in Mongolia.
