SwissAid, an independent development agency based in Switzerland, is now working on regulating the activities of ninjas or unorganized miners and to draft laws guaranteeing them some security. It recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy to cooperate in the second phase of its two-phase project.
Between 40,000 and 50,000 people dig on their own for gold and other mineral resources in Mongolia. They do not use protective equipment and are often involved in preventable accidents. The second phase of the project will pay attention to ninjas’ safety at work.
