Ts.Elbegdorj, President and Commander of the Armed Forces of Mongolia, attended a ceremony on Monday at the Culture Palace on the eve of The Day of Mongolian Soldiers today. Extending his and the nation’s greetings to all military officials and soldiers, he said the Day is celebrated not just by military personnel, but by all the people, in recognition of the fact that the Mongolian army helps protect national independence, sovereignty, and peace. Women constitute 14% of the Mongolian military strength, more than in most other countries.

He said the history of Mongolian soldiers is inseparably linked to the history of the Mongolian state. Both face new challenges in the 21st century and will be successful together. The armed forces of Mongolia lend their services and expertise to border protecting units, intelligence organizations, and emergency operations. He also greeted military families for their special role in the life of the armed forces.

The President said the National Security Policy passed in July, 2010 redefines the part military officials and soldiers will play on the national stage. Mongolia continues to protect its security through conventional diplomatic methods, and feels peace demands mutual respect among countries. Mongolian troops are now well known for their successful participation in UN peace keeping operations.

Ts.Elbegdorj favored jobs in state services for former military personnel. Their experience in the army gives them qualities like mental strength and persistence.
Generals received new shoulder-straps as designed under a Presidential decree.
