Car prices went up by between MNT1million and MNT2 billion some time ago, following a Government move to increase excise tax. The proposal was rejected by the MPP group in Parliament but car traders stuck to their raised price. Japan accounts for 5% of Mongolia’s imports and cars make up most of it is but the tsunami and the earthquake in Japan have nothing to do with present prices. Mongolia imported more than 20,000 vehicles from Japan in 2010 worth more than USD12.36 billion.
