Despite the administration’s efforts slippery roads after the snowfall continue to cause accidents and both ends of Peace Bridge are still covered with ice. Sand, 30 tons of salt and 60 tons of other substances used during the New Year holidays to help melt the snow have proved to be too little. Altogether 12 trucks and 200 workers are at the job, working long hours. The city stored 172 tons of snow melting substances and 120 tons of salt before the winter.
The nine snow clearing vehicles can be used only if there is more than 5 centimeters of snowfall. MNT 90 million was budgeted for slippery roads this year.
