Mongolia has held a National Forum for Fighting Air-Pollution. The event, which took place earlier today (23rd of October), was initiated by President Kh.Battulga. Government and non-governmental organisations, unions, activists and scientists as well as companies producing eco products all participated in the event.

The country spent MNT 49.6 billion for projects and programme for decreasing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar city in 2008-2014 and 97.7 billion in 2011-2017. In addition, Mongolia received nearly USD 60 million in loans from international organisations for implementing seven ecological projects in 2008-2016.

In 2016, more than 114 thousand households in the capital’s ger districts benefited from the electricity tariff discount by 50-100 percent. The discount is costing over MNT 3 billion. The ger districts, which are characterised by poor housing, are unanimously recognised as being the source of much of the pollution during the winter months, when Ulaanbaatar is cloaked in smog.
