The Mongolian Foreign Ministry and the US Ambassador to Mongolia are discussing possible visa-free travel for Mongolian passport holders under the ‘Responsible Travel’ programme. However, unfortunately, Mongolians have been increasingly breaking US visa regulations. In 2016, a total of 8 percent of all Mongolian travellers to the United States exceeded the validity period of their visas; furthermore 20 percent of student visa holders worked illegally.
Acting Foreign Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil, noted that if the discussions are successful, Mongolian passport holders will be able to receive US H2B visas from November. The H2B visa is ideal for people who want to work in the United States on a temporary or seasonal basis, or take interesting jobs across the country.
Currently, Mongolian passport holders can travel visa-free to 16 countries and diplomatic passport holders to 29 countries.
