The Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) group in parliament held a regular meeting on 29th September, during which then discussed the appointment of the new prime minister and the state budget bill. The full contingent of MPP members of the State Great Khural (parlaiment) attended the meeting in which they backed the proposed appointment of  U.Khurelsukh as PM. Now, it only remains for parliament, as a whole, to approve the candidate. There will be no problems with this, as the MPP holds an overwhelming majority of seats.

The group members also agreed to resolve the appointments of new government members immediately, after the appointment of the PM in a plenary session to be held next Thursday, opening the autumn session of the State Great Khural on 2nd October.

The ruling People’s Party of Mongolia on Tuesday chose acting Deputy Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh as their candidate for new prime minister last week.

Earlier this month, lawmakers demanded that former Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat resign for allegedly violating parliamentary procedures through the granting of contracts worth the equivalent of 328 million U.S. dollars to companies linked to three cabinet members.
