The Mongolian Cabinet held an special sitting on 22nd of September over the teachers’ demands for a salary rise which has led to strike action.
Yesterday (21st of September), Mongolian teachers entered the first day of their strike; they are demanding that their monthly salaries be raised to MNT 1.6 million.
U.Byambasuren, who is the deputy of the Governmental Cabinet Secretariat, said: ‘We are considering increasing the salaries of civil servants by up to 30 percent in three stages from 1st of January, 2018. We need to coordinate this with the State Budget and the current economic situation’. The teachers, however, have considered that their demands are not being met and have decided to begin their strike.
The teachers are planning another strike next Tuesday (26th of September).
