The 72nd Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly is currently underway at UN Headquarters in New York, from 19th to 25th of September. As a member of the United Nations, the Mongolian President attends the session every year. This year, however, acting Foreign Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil is participating in the session instead of President Kh.Battulga.

Today (20th of September), Kh.Battulga, President of Mongolia answered a journalist’s question as to why he is not in New York at the UN General Assembly?

President Kh.Battulga said ‘I have met with the UN Delegation in Mongolia. During the meeting, we agreed to renew the methods of cooperation between the Presidential Administration and UN. Mongolia will cooperate with UN on five basic issues; namely, unemployment, poverty, environmental pollution, deserfication, children’s problems and air-pollution. This year’s theme of the UN session is ‘Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for all on a Sustainable Planet’. The agenda focuses on the Syria crisis and North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons. I have been receiving information. The acting foreign minister is participating instead of me. Previous presidents has been participated in every UN session, however, winter is approaching. There is a colossal amount of work to be done in time; this comes  when the Government has been dismissed and having acting ministers. Subsequently, I decided to not participate in the UN session’.

President Kh.Battulga is speaking about the problems of preparing fodder for the Mongolia’s livestock following a year of drought and ensuring that the necessary food security measures are in place.
