The number of livestock in Mongolia reached a record over 80 million animals in 2017. The figure is surprising when one considers the harsh conditions, such as the winter ‘zud’ which wiped out more than 600 thousand domestic animals. Government figures show livestock increased by 21.9 million young animals this year. Last year, at this time, there were 61.5 head of livestock in Mongolia.
According to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industries, Mongolia will slaughter 14 million livestock to satisfy winter meat needs.
