Mongolian Minister for Foreign Affairs Tsend Munkh-Orgil met the Ambassador of the European Union to the country H.E. Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, the foreign ministry reported on May 25th.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on steps and further actions to be undertaken following Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil’s recent visit to the European Union. They also elaborated on the upcoming project on “Trade Related Assistance to Mongolia”. As agreed during the Joint Committee meeting held last March in Ulaanbaatar, both sides discussed plans to improve budget management and utilise 2014-2020 development cooperation funds as a sectoral budget support starting from 2018.
Prior to the meeting, Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil presented Ambassador Schwesgut the state award “Order of the Polar Star”, issued by decree of the President of Mongolia, in recognition for the Ambassador’s efforts to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between Mongolia and the European Union. While presenting the award the Foreign Minister noted that this award not only recognises Ambassador Schweisgut’s contribution in strengthening bilateral relations, but also, the high significance that Mongolia attaches to the development of relations with the European Union as a whole.
The Delegation of the European Union organised a “Europe Day” for the first time in Mongolia, at the German Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome, a key document in establishing today’s European Union.
