The trial of the South Korean citizen Yang for the murder more than a month ago of 26 -year-old Mongolia Gantsetseg will begin in Naju  on November 14. Yang stabbed Gantsetseg, a friend of his own Mongolian wife, many times at her home before she died.

Yang and his wife were married through a marriage mediation service. Yang was often drunk and beat up his wife, who fled to the murdered woman’s home. Yang, still very drunk, came after her and fled after murdering Gantsetseg. Korean police arrested him from his parents’ home after 48 hours.

Mongolian students at the Chonnam University of South Korea and members of the Mongolian Women’s Rights Protection Center in Naju yesterday organized a peaceful demonstration. The Mongolian Women’s Union also held a press conference yesterday in Ulaanbaatar and allowed media to talk to the murdered woman’s mother, D.Narantuya. The following are some of the questions she was asked and her answers.

When will you go to South Korea?

I want to be there before the trial, but much depends on when I get the visa. My eldest daughter who has cared for my murdered daughter’s baby called us about the demonstration in Naju.

Would you be an aggrieved party at the trial?

No, her husband will be.

Why?

I do not know Korean law and I do not understand it why her husband is to be treated as the victim.

Who will go with you to South Korea?

I will go with my eldest son and an advocate.

Can the advocate participate in the trial? Would our Embassy in South Korea provide a translator?

I cannot talk to my murdered daughter’s husband because of language problems. I want to have the rights to one annual visit to the child.

Gantsetseg was killed in trying to protect 19 year-old Erdenetsetseg. Has Erdenetsetseg’s family been in touch with you?

They called after the murder and said if you need a car call us. I called recently and they said they could not help. I did not call again.

Did your daughter work when she was in Mongolia?

She graduated from the Korean language faculty of the National University of Mongolia and worked as a translator in a private company. That is how she met this man and married him.
