The Gender Equality National Committee working group and Women Leaders
Found yesterday organized a “journalist-partnership” meeting to devise the
strategy to achieve more gender equality for journalists in all media organizations.
The meeting was in the backdrop of signs that political parties could indefinitely
postpone discussion of the gender equality law.
The MPRP group members have opposed having a fixed quota for men and women in
state services, as that would mean 40% of kindergarten nurses would be men, putting
women out of work, as also keeping 40% of jobs in the mining field for women. A
working group established by the Standing Committee on Social Policy,
Education, Culture and Science will review the proposals.
The meeting allowed participants to exchange views on the gender law draft.
