Mongolia has been chosen by The International Renewable
Energy Organization (IREO), in cooperation with the Britain based international
NGO Humanitad,  as the first Flagship Pilot
Nation for their newly launched, Exemplar-Zero Initiative-carbon-zero,
sustainable development global initiative. This was announced during the
official inauguration ceremony of the E-Z Initiative in New York on October
10-11.

Among those present at the ceremony were the Senior Advisor to the President, P.Tsagaan,
the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the UN, Mrs. O.Enkhtsetseg, and
others from the NGO and IREO.

The E-Z Initiative works through technological investments in domestic
businesses, science and research centers and institutions, and intends to
improve Mongolia”s technological competitiveness as an aid to the nation’s
sustainable development.

The Initiative is supported by the private sector and its main objective is
clean and sustainable development in various areas through diverse methods. Its
goals are: drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emission; better usage of
surface water; water purifying and recycling; use in various production processes
new technologies that require minimum water; finding and implementing the
optimum heat and power resource in rural areas; increasing the participation of
domestic sectors in production and mining development process. Moreover, to mitigate
the environmental damage from mining, it will encourage import and effective
utilization of the most advanced technology in copper, gold and uranium extraction,
while using the latest transportation and logistic equipments as a way of
decreasing air-pollution caused by old and worn-out machines.
