There is no decision as yet on the Prosecutor-General’s
request to dismiss the head of the Anti-Corruption Authority (ACA),
Ch.Sangaragchaa, and his deputy, D.Sunduisuren. Parliament decided on Friday
last week to defer its scheduled discussion of the issue on the day to October
14 after receiving a request from the Chief of the Standing Committee on
Justice that they should first review the issue once again on Wednesday and
take a decision after open voting.
The committee earlier voted on the issue in secret and
has now been told that this was against rules. Despite the official secrecy, it
is known that of the 17 members who attended the last meeting of the committee,
10 voted against the dismissal. All were MPRP members. One MPRP member, former
Prime Minister S.Bayar, and 6 DP members voted to accept the
Prosecutor-General’s request . The committee has 20 members, and if all of them
attend Wednesday’s meeting and if the three who had been absent at the last
meeting vote for the dismissal there could be a tie. It will then again be left
to a plenary session of Parliament to resolve the issue.
