Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan arrived in Mongolia on
Sunday, mainly to help establish cooperation between local organizations that
help orphans and poor children and their international counterparts. He also took part in a run to
raise awareness against air pollution.
Later, he met with media and said he was very happy to be
in Mongolia and was grateful for the friendly reception everywhere. “I take
this opportunity to express my love for Mongolia,” he said before answering
questions.
Why do you work only with children?
A single individual cannot be everywhere, doing everything. I have chosen
to do what I can for children with my limited resources.
How did you find the smoke covering the
capital city?
This is not an issue for an individual or for the state alone. There must be
cooperation and everybody should contribute. Even Los Angeles has this problem.
People in many countries have asked me about air pollution and I always say we
can have a nicer environment if only we could come together.
Adopting a child is quite common among
Hollywood stars. What about you?
A child means much responsibility and I am not sure I have the time. I have
two dogs but since I can take little care of them myself, sometimes they attack
me.
Will you make a movie about Chinggis
Khaan?
Batuka and I have talked about it and I would really like to make one, but
there is nothing definite.
Is it true you have Mongolian ancestry?
I do not actually know. My father told me my grandfather had Mongolian blood.
Maybe this is why I think of making a movie about Chinggis Khaan. I do not want
to make the usual film with only lots of battles.
People know and love you as a comedy
actor. Do you think of a change? What is your next step in Hollywood?
I have been in the movie business for long now and have always tried to be a
good actor, not just a comic actor. Right now I am doing a film called 1911,
which is completely different from my other films. I try to be varied.
