The new system of civil registration has so far
covered 1,151,236 adults, or 61% of the total number, and 448,707 children and
adolescents, or  56% of the total number.
It has covered between 74.6% and 87.0% of the people in Dundgobi, Dornogobi,
Bulgan and Gobisumber aimags, and Baganuur and Bagakhangai districts, and
between 31.3% and 45.7% in Bayan-Ulgii and Khovd aimags.

Loss of the birth certificate, differences in given or family names, expired
identity cards have delayed the registration work. The Civil Document Archives
are working all 24 hours a day and the Ulaanbaatar district khoroos on
Saturdays to resolve all problems regarding the birth certificate of all who were
born after 1951.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the State Registration
Office have said registration of students from the countryside would be done in
the Institute or University where they are studying instead of where their
residence is recorded.

The chief of the office, L.Munkhbaatar, has said the registration has to be
speeded up. The exercise will has been extended for a month and will now end on
November 1 . Birth certificates will have to be shown for those under 16, while
those older will have to show their citizen’s identity card.  Soldiers and students will be registered at
their place of study or duty.

There will be no penalty for those coming for registration after October.
