Prime Minister S.Batbold told Mrs. Sezin Sinanoglu,
Permament Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in
Mongolia at a meeting on Thursday that he wants to arrange a seminar where the
government, the UN, NGOs and members of the public will recommend the framework
and goals of Mongolia-UNDP cooperation and suggert priority areas of work.
Batbold congratulated Mrs. Sinanoglu on her appointment and expressed his
happiness at the progress and achievements of the long cooperation between
Mongolia and the UNDP. UN assistance significantly contributes to the
development of Mongolia. The United Nations Development Assistance Framework
(UNDAF) identifies strategic areas of work and a work plan for 2012-2015 is
under preparation.
Mongolia’s progress to achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015
has been good but it “has to be accelerated in spheres such as poverty
reduction, ensuring gender equality and environmental protection,” the Prime
Minister added.
Mrs.
Sinanoglu said she will make efforts to strengthen and deepen Mongolia-UN
cooperation and appreciated Mongolia’s efforts to fulfill MDGs. She felt the
recent cabinet meeting in the Gobi had
succeeded in drawing the attention of the world to problems of climate change
and desertification.
