The Emergency Commission’s meeting on August
30 reviewed reports on cases of foot and mouth disease in sheep and goats and
avian influenza in the country. An area in Sukhbaatar province, where 16
herders have 12,560 animals is being watched, as 734 of these animals have
shown symptoms of the infection. The province administration has been asked to
vaccinate all animals.
Avian influenza is suspected to be the cause of
death of 62 birds in Terkhiin Tsagaan lake of Arkhangai aimag. All households
and tourist camps in the area have been warned not to drink the lake water.
